NON-VIOLENT RESISTANCE
A Training Approach proven to reduce aggressive, non-cooperative and self-destructive behaviors in children and adolescents. What Is NVR?
Non-Violent Resistance (NVR) is a new training approach for parents
of challenging children and adolescents. NVR is an integrative
model that goes beyond behavioral training approaches, which are
consequence based, and communication approaches, which reach impasse
when the child/adolescent is not interested in communication.
NVR enables parents to undertake effective action, develop a sense
of moral and personal confidence, and feel that their efforts
are supported by significant others. The model has shown to be
effective in reducing children's problem behaviors, reducing parental
helplessness and improving family atmosphere.
Why NVR?
Despite the many different theories and approaches available today,
a growing number of parents express legitimate concerns such as:
- "I understand why my child is behaving this way but I still don't know what to do about it".
- "I try to communicate empathy and try to reason with my child but he continues to do what he wants and doesn't care about what I say".
- "My child doesn't respond to consequences and they are actually making him worse".
- promote understanding and compassion to the child that leads to action.
- distinguish between fruitful communication and communication efforts that make things worse.
- offer powerful interventions that are not based on the consequence model.
The workshop will introduce new and innovative means for reducing children's aggressive and non-cooperative behaviors. Participants will be instructed in implementing the NVR interventions through didactic and experiential activities.
Upon completion of the workshop you will be able to:
- Utilize techniques for discovering and recognizing the parents' value system as a way for developing a strong moral position.
- Conduct NVR interventions that reduce risky behaviors while increasing parental presence (specifically through the "Sit-In intervention" and the "Tailing Intervention")
- Help parents become experts in reducing escalation processes.
- Facilitate reconciliation, repair and reconnection gestures by parents towards the child.
- Implement "Public Opinion" interventions, recruit supporters and teach parents how to coach other supporters.
- Resolve inter-parental conflict and reduce parental resistance to interventions.
- Apply NVR interventions in school settings.
