Dr.
Gail Serruya employs a wide variety of psychotherapy techniques,
in addition to medication management. She works with her patients
to help them gain understanding about themselves and their relationships,
customizing her therapeutic approach to best suit a patient's
needs.
Dr. Serruya has extensive training in both traditional psychodynamic therapy as well as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). CBT, developed by Dr. Aaron Beck, is a structured, collaborative therapy that involves understanding the relationship between maladaptive thinking patterns, emotional distress, and behaviors.
Dr. Serruya completed her medical training at Rush Medical College and her psychiatric residency at Brown University and the University of Pennsylvania. During residency, she received an award through the "Frieda Fromm-Reichmann Psychodynamic Fellowship" for scholarly writing.
After completing her residency, Dr. Serruya worked for two years at the Univeristy of Pennsylvania with Dr. Aaron Beck, the father of CBT. At Penn she developed an expert knowledge of CBT for treatment of anxiety, depression, and psychosis.
Dr. Serruya has expertise in treating a full spectrum of disorders including depression, anxiety, bipolar, and schizophrenia. She is available to see clients for individual psychotherapy, with or without medications, as well as for medication management alone. Dr. Serruya is also available for consultations.
