Lucy
S. Raizman is a senior staff therapist and Office Director (Doylestown)
with more than 17 years experience working with individuals, couples,
and families. She works in the Doylestown and Spring House offices.
She is a licensed clinical social worker and marriage and family
therapist, and an AAMFT- Approved Supervisor.
Lucy is passionate about the importance of relationships in each of our lives and believes in the benefits of positive attachment as strengthened through learning about and practicing the techniques of Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT). She is skilled in helping individuals and couples address and repair disconnections by staying engaged and responsive, as well as enhancing their relationships. Lucy is committed to helping individuals and couples understand how everyone’s basic needs for safety, security and closeness are challenged by negative patterns of communication and emotional reactivity, by conflicts and behaviors that interrupt the expression of love and intimacy. Her areas of special interest and experience are couple and sex therapy, separation/divorce and co-parenting issues, infidelity/affairs, stress/anger management, eating disorders, and mind-body oriented approaches to healing trauma.
In addition to her professional training and personal experience, using a wide range of therapies and techniques to address each individual’s needs, Lucy tries to create a comfortable and accepting relationship with her clients. This includes the practice of mindfulness, intentionally focusing upon the present moment with nonjudgmental attitudes and working towards improving a sense of well-being. During sessions, Lucy explores ways with each client to gain greater awareness and regulation of their own thoughts, feelings and actions and to prevent getting stuck in repetitive and distressing cycles of relating to oneself and others.
Lucy integrates her specialized training and experience in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) and SE (Somatic Experiencing) to help people recover from trauma and emotional injury in a collaborative process. In addition to counseling, she also teaches classes and workshops in intimacy and relationship skills, and frequently presents to groups on couple and trauma-related therapies.
Lucy received her MSW from the University of Pittsburgh and completed her Post-graduate training at Council for Relationships. She also is a research associate and interviewer for the Transcending Trauma Project since 1992.
