Staff Therapist, Paoli Office
610-889-0419 ext. 6

Kerstin Miller, MDiv, LMFTKerstin is a certified EMDR therapist. EMDR is a trauma treatment method that us used to treat a variety of challenging issues. Traumatic experiences, especially during childhood can have a significant impact on a person’s life, often resulting in depression and anxiety. The pain of trauma can often contribute to the experience of physical symptoms including fibromyalgia, chronic pain, and insomnia. Kerstin is interested in the connection of mind and body, and helps clients explore underlying issues in a gentle, respectful, healing atmosphere.

Kerstin also uses EMDR for Stress Management and Performance Enhancement. The high demands of work and family life can be hard to balance and can take a toll on self-esteem and relationships. She helps clients stay mindful and centered through relaxation and supports them in developing strategies to achieve their goals.

Kerstin also specializes in couples therapy. Partners often find themselves feeling lonely and disconnected. Her main goal for couples therapy is to help partners hear and understand each other in a deeper and more empathic way. The initial focus is to create an environment of emotional safety that allows for sharing of concerns in a way that does not allow for destructive behaviors to be repeated in session. Couples are guided to identify their defensive behaviors and change them. As the therapeutic process continues, both partners’ ability to experience compassion for each other is increased. It is this experience of empathy in session that helps people feel connected and rediscover love, hope and optimism for the future.

Additionally, Kerstin is also trained in sex therapy. She helps couples address concerns about their sexual relationship. Sexual problems and dysfunctions can be explored in a safe context for couples to vitalize their sexual relationship hand in hand with their evolving emotional intimacy. Kerstin enjoys working with straight, as well as gay and lesbian couples.

Kerstin earned her Masters Degree in Theology/Pastoral Counseling from the University of Hamburg, Germany. She came to the United States to work as a pastoral counselor at a Philadelphia Medical Center, where she worked with chronically ill patients and their families. She finished her post-graduate studies at Council for Relationships in 1995 and started her practice as a marriage and family therapist.

Kerstin is a licensed marriage and family therapist and Clinical member of AAMFT. She is a trained educator for Prepare/Enrich and PAIRS Relationship Skills. She teaches Couples Communication, Women’s Empowerment, and Anger Management in Paoli.
