Kenneth M. Maguire, PsyD
Assistant Director, Institute for Sex TherapyStaff Therapist, Oxford Valley
267-479-2391
Dr.
Maguire is a licensed psychologist who specializes in helping
couples and individuals, including adolescents. In his clinical
work, Dr. Maguire works with clients to create a safe space where
they can explore the challenges they are facing. Relationships
are a central piece of all our lives, and Dr. Maguire works to
help people explore how they can create the types of relationships
they desire.
In working with couples, Dr. Maguire works with people who are dating, considering commitment, or married/partnered. Dr. Maguire sees couples of all ages, though he specializes in working with young couples, helping them navigate the particular challenges they face, including balancing career development, enhancing intimacy in their relationship, establishing effective communication patterns and learning to problem solve together.
Dr. Maguire has expertise in working with adults and adolescents who have experienced a lifetime of trauma, or single traumatic events in their life. Dr. Maguire has successfully treated individuals with histories of physical, sexual and emotional abuse in both couples and individual therapy. Dr. Maguire helps people process past experiences and progress in their healing process at their own pace.
When working with teenagers, Dr. Maguire seeks to help teens overcome the challenges they are facing. Being a teen is often a time of tremendous change and uncertainty. He seeks to help teens navigate this period and overcome their challenges. He collaborates with parents/guardians when it is helpful, believing that informed and involved parents/guardians are an integral part of the process.
Dr. Maguire has extensive experience in successfully treating people experiencing difficulty with sexual addiction, love addiction, compulsive sexuality, internet addiction, gambling addiction and codependency. He understands the shame, embarrassment and pain that these behaviors can cause, is non-judgmental, and is supportive in helping clients achieve their goals. Dr. Maguire helps individuals and couples identify the feelings, thoughts and behaviors that are part of these patterns, how they impact relationships and how they can be changed to construct the desired outcome and improved life.
Dr. Maguire specializes in working with couples and individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, intersexual, transsexual, transgender or questioning (LGBITQ), as well as couples where one or both partners identify as LGBTIQ. He helps them achieve whatever their therapy goals may be (which may be unrelated to sexual or gender identity). He understands the particular challenges, both subtle and obvious, faced by the community and is sensitive to how these challenges impact those he works with, helping them to navigate those waters while also exploring what brought them to seek counseling.
Dr. Maguire can be reached at 267-479-2391.
