Dr.
Jordan Lief works with individuals, couples, and families, with
the goal of helping people become more aware of and more comfortable
with themselves and others. Life is complex, and Jordan enjoys
the challenges of assisting people through their unpredictable
journeys. He creates a supportive therapeutic environment where
his clients feel safe to explore themselves, their relationships,
and the world around them.
Jordan's areas of expertise include:
- Sexual addiction / Compulsive sexual behavior
- Couples therapy / Relationship enhancement / Communication
- Pre-marital counseling
- Love addiction
- Codependence
- Internet and pornography addiction
- Recovery from trauma and abuse
- Depression, anxiety, and stress
Jordan has extensive experience in the treatment of people struggling with sex addiction, love addiction, and compulsive sexual behavior. He spent four years working at a residential treatment facility in the Philadelphia area that exclusively treats these issues. Jordan does individual therapy for addicts and their partners, as well as couples therapy for this population. He also facilitates therapy groups for sex addicts and separate groups exclusively for their partners and family members. He also treats individuals who have experienced legal difficulties due to their inappropriate sexual behavior (sex offenders). Sex addiction (which can include pornography, compulsive masturbation, infidelity, cybersex, exhibitionism, voyeurism, affairs, and many other behaviors) can cause an incredible amount of pain to the addict and to their family, friends, and loved ones. Jordan works with the entire system to stop this destructive cycle of behavior, in order for the necessary healing to begin.
When working with couples, Jordan feels it is incredibly important to recognize and express the strong emotions that most often underlie the issues that lead to conflict. He teaches partners to better empathize with each other. It is often in the context of this improved empathy that change and healing can occur. Jordan also works with couples to improve their communication skills, conflict management skills, and problem solving skills. His goals are to reduce the defensiveness and emotional escalation that can lead to unproductive or destructive exchanges. He also seeks to increase the amount of positive interactions. He particularly enjoys working with couples as they prepare for married life together. Relationships need to be nurtured, and Jordan helps partners learn to better care for each other.
In addition to the areas mentioned above, Jordan also treats clients suffering from trauma, physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, emotional neglect, alcoholism, drug addiction, gambling addiction, depression, anxiety, stress, obsessive-compulsive disorder, narcissistic personality disorder, borderline personality disorder, and bipolar disorder. Other areas of interest also include sexual health, sexual function and dysfunction, and sex therapy.
Jordan received his undergraduate degree from Middlebury College, and his doctorate in clinical psychology from Widener University. He also has advanced graduate training in human sexuality. His doctoral dissertation was entitled The State of Marriage in the United States and the Role of Empirically Supported Premarital Counseling Programs in its Potential Improvement.
Jordan can be reached at 610-642-2648 extension 6.
